"I really liked the price and how clean everything was. The front porch was nice, the location was nice, and I loved the convenience of the beach being a 2 minute walk away. In the morning I could hear the waves from my window."

"The staff is amazing! It's a family and it's very welcoming. House is clean, you share kitchen and bathroom and both are daily clean. Very close to the beach and all the restaurant!"

"The host is SO KIND and helpful. The location was great: on a quiet street but very close to the beach and main street. The room is a bedroom in a shared, Costa-Rica-style house, so it gives the feel of a more local stay (as opposed to foreign-styled hotels). There's also a kitchen guests can use, which helped us save money (Playa del Coco is expensive!!!)."

"The only things I didn't like were about Playa del Coco itself (it's expensive and feels more like America than Costa Rica). I have no complaints about the hotel, it was great!"

"The property is gorgeous and peaceful. It was a real joy to wander around. The staff were all lovely and the food was delicious. My partner and I spent an inordinate amount of time in our hot tub spotting birds and staring at the amazing hilltop view. I'm already dreaming about coming back and staying much longer."

"Great motel style accomodation 10 minute walk away from Volcan Tenorio NP. Great breakfast and coffee included in the morning served perfectly just prior to park opening. Staff are accomodating and concerned with guests having the best stay possible. They were on the look out for sloths and toucans for our viewing and gave us good information about the park and eating options in the area. Mini fridge in the room was very helpful if you’re carrying around your own food."

"Cesar was a fantastic host. He made us feel right at home. He was so passionate about Costa Rica and the nature around Arenal, and took us on a night walk around the property- we saw frogs, snakes and spiders. The view from the cabin onto the volcano was unbelievable. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a toucan, and saw loads of birds throughout our stay. Lovely breakfast at Mystico Park too!"

"Umami is a lovely modern and clean hotel in a great location. It’s a few minutes of walk from the restaurants, shops and the beach. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and helped us organise a transfer back to San Jose. A big thank you to Ray and the team. The breakfast at the hotel was also great. We’d recommend Umami if you’re in Puerto Viejo!"

"Absolutely beautiful place, with stoning views. Very clean, very comfortable and perfectly designed private houses. Large, perfectly maintained pool. Natural shadow from trees. Cool breeze ( property is situated on top of the heal). Two best beaches and decent restaurant nearby. Very friendly and attentive owners. Getting there is difficult but it is also one of its strengths. It offers a unique experience."
